Badger Book
NEW: Election workers will use Badger Book (an electronic poll book) to check in voters. The “Badger Book” is poll book software that is specific to Wisconsin elections practices and statutes.

The Badger Book is primarily used to:

  • Assign voter numbers
  • Process absentee ballots
  • Register voters on Election Day

The Badger Book electronically assigns the voter number, which eliminates manual tracking by election workers. Each of the above processes were chosen and designed based on feedback provided by clerks and election workers from across the state. After Election Day, a data file generated from the Badger Book is used to upload election participation results and Election Day Registration information into the statewide voter registration system.

The Badger Book is the only electronic poll book software created with direct integration to the statewide voter registration system. Badger Books do not use an internet connection. A router and an encrypted, password protected USB memory stick, is used at each polling location. The router facilitates communication locally between Badger Book machines. The USB stick is used to transfer data from an internet-connection computer to the Badger Book server machine.
